First stop, Rome - Where we are staying


We are staying in a very comfortable  apartment in a palazzo built in 1887. It was one of the first buildings constructed in San Lorenzo during first expansion of the city after the annexation of Rome to the Kingdom of Italy in 1870. 
The building it was unscathed both in the First World War and in the bombings of the Second World War on 19 July 1943 because it was further away from the railway station, the main objective of the allied forces.
There are 40 apartments in each of the 4 wings. This is a photo of our wing B , taken from the central courtyard.
 A fairly unimpressive entrance door (below) but the apartment is very modern


Not sure about the image above the bed: Bellini's Rape of Persephone is of course a masterpiece, but there are probably more appropriate places to hang it!
