The Campo Verano cemetery

I am not a huge fan of cemetery visits, but we wound up roaming around here because we got lost looking for the Basilica of San Lorenzo which is very close by the cemetery.

There were some very poignant inscriptions  on the tombstones and some very dramatic depictions of grief.



The tomb of Goffredo Mameli  an Italian patriot, poet, writer and a notable figure in the Risorgimento. He is also the author of the lyrics of "Il Canto degli Italiani", the national anthem of Italy.
