Pasolini Pittore at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna

We went to see an interesting exhibition, Pasolini Pittore at  the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Rome. On show were works that revealed little known, aspect of filmmaker and poet Pier Paolo Pasolini’s artistic work: his painting. Drawing and painting were very important for him especially when he was young, but he sketched constantly. The self portrait below is the image used on the publicity for the show.

There were also number of works by his friends an contemporaries, including Carlo Levi and Morandi.
The many film clips and interviews relating to Pasolini were a bit hard to understand due to the poor quality of the sound and his very heavy accent. Hard work indeed.
There is a good article here  on a very similar exhibition that took place in London some years ago.
While we were walking the streets we saw some poignant street art where Pasolini was the subject - here is a link Pasolini Street Art
He is still very much in the minds of Italians due to his enduring writings  and critiques on Italian intellectual life.
